The iPad Has Arrived

Unless you have locked yourself in your pad with no TV, radio or computer you know that Apple launched the much awaited iPad a few days ago with a fair amount of media coverage. First reports indicate that over 300,000 iPads were sold in the first 24 hours. If the iPad follows the success of the iPhone, Apple will have another hit on their hands.

The iPad is without a doubt a slick media product. There are 6 models to choose from. You have a choice of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models available in either WIFI or WIFI + 3G configuration. That storage capacity is via a flash drive which means very fast retrieval and no noisy hard drive.

The iPad screen is similar to the iPhone. It is a LED 9.7 inch diagonal 1024 x 768 pixel resolution that is fingerprint resistant. If you like to snuggle with your significant other you will be able to watch your favorite movies together with the iPad's TPS technology that provides a wide 178 degree viewing angle.

The big question on everyone's mind is about web surfing. Apple's browser, Safari is built in and you can view web pages in either portrait or landscape mode. The iPad uses touch screen technology you scroll up and down by flicking your finger on the screen. Double tapping will enlarge and shrink the page while pinching allows you to zoom in and out. You can synch your Mac or PC to capture your existing bookmarks and when you want to type an onscreen keyboard appears.

How long can you surf? Up to 10 hours including watching video or listening to music. That is reduced about 10% if you are 3G. All of this is courtesy of the built in 25 watt lithium-polymer battery that is charged via power adapter or USB.

There are needed accessories available for the iPad that are not included but you will want to consider like a real keyboard and a case which is more like a folder.

If you want to attract some eyeballs the next time you go surfing at Starbucks pickup an iPad. You will be hearing, "that is so cool".
