Apple MacBook Pro Spring 2010 - Future-Proof MacBook Pro

If it's not broke, don't fix it, which is exactly what Apple has done with the Apple MacBook Pro Spring 2010 laptop's design. Featuring the same cool aluminum uni-body chassis of its 2009 predecessor the laptop looks as great as it always did. Packing in a 15.4-inch display the laptop offers plenty of real-estate. However, the laptop retains the same normal sized chiclet-style keyboard as other Apple laptops (no numeric keypad). This makes for plenty of space left over for the large glass-covered track-pad and very comfortable typing experience.

The main difference between the Apple MacBook Pro Spring 2010 and its 2009 version is that it now uses an Intel Core i7 M620 processor and a higher-end Nvidia GT 330M discrete graphics to go with Intel's standard GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics. With 4GB of DDR3 memory and a 500GB hard disk drive, the laptop is very stable, very fast and very responsive. At 5.5 pounds the laptop is still more or less the same weight but the newer components offer better performance and overall energy efficiency.

This is mainly shown by the fact that battery life is much better than its predecessor. While the 2009 version only got about five hours or so on a single charge, the Apple MacBook Pro Spring 2010 gets about six hours of battery life. While this may not seem like much, bear in mind that the components for the 2010 laptop are several times more powerful than the 2009 version. The battery is non-removable though while other ports and connections remain the same with a mini displayport, a Firewire 800 port, two USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet LAN port, an SD card reader, stereo speakers and audio jacks. Connectivity is still the same powerful 802.11 b/g/n wireless wi-fi and Bluetooth while the laptop also packs in a DVD burner for good measure.

Performance for the Apple MacBook Pro Spring 2010 is definitely the highlight of the 2010 revamp as it can now handle everything. While you may have to tweak down the details and settings somewhat, the new discrete graphics allows you to play almost any game in the market. In addition to this, Apple have included an automatic graphics switching feature which switches the graphics to the discrete graphics when needed and switches back down to the more power-saving integrated graphics. The track-pad also offers inertial scrolling much like the iPhone and iPad, increasing the number of multi-touch controls at the same time.

Overall, the Apple MacBook Pro Spring 2010 is an awesome component revamp for an already awesome laptop. While it may lack HDMI and Blu-ray it more than makes up for it with a great design, awesome performance and many more easy to use features. This makes it a great future-proofed MacBook Pro laptop to get, especially if you're planning to stay with just one laptop for the next three to five years.

Apple MacBook Air - Guide For The New Notebook User

The MacBook Air is the latest star to be released from the Apple stable. Confident of it's own special qualities, it has already gained a head start in the notebook race thanks to the latest unique features. If you are on the look-out for a notebook to help keep your business under control, will the Apple MacBook Air fit the bill? Here is my guide to help the new notebook user.

Since notebooks are aimed at travelling business professionals, Apple scores right off the mark with it's featherweight product. Weighing in at just 2.3 pounds (1.06kg), it overcomes all the difficulties of dragging heavy laptops around. The superslim shape measures just over 11 inches and is 1.7cm at the widest point. The LED backlight gives more text on the screen and adjustable stereo sound is provided from left and right speakers via the keyboard.

These achievements are without work-base compromise. The keyboard is full sized, which is essential if you need a notebook to actually work on (as well as play). A larger than usual battery gives 5 hours of use on one charge and the MacBook comes with the ability to stay in standby mode for up to 30 days. Closing the lid will suspend all function and pop-back opening allows instant use.

Flash storage fuels this ability. A first for notebooks, it was previously only used in iPods, iPhones and iPads. Apple was quick to realize the advantage it would provide in the ultra-thin Macbook Air, since it needs only around 20% of traditional hard drive power and can read over a hundred times faster. It is also very cost effective.

The multi-touch track pad (minus the buttons) allows the user to click and operate anywhere in the zone. The finger swipe is perfected to an art with its 'click, tap and scroll feature'. Allowing you to adjust, swipe, rotate, pinch, zoom in and out or flick to scroll the pages, watch out for the 'two finger scroll, three finger drag and four finger swipe' instructions.

Guide prices start at ?849 for the 11 inch notebook and comes with all the usual features for leisure time activities. Web-browsing, video watching and photo-editing are standard, but another first for Apple is the FaceTime Camera. Smaller than the iPhone 4 camera, it's hardly noticeable and you may call (even in low light), any other iPhone 4, iPod touch or Mac user using Wi-Fi without compromise of video quality.

The 2 GB of memory, allows you to send emails, print documents and download music. Tutorials are available for expert advice on all aspects of MacBook Air use, as well as a few tricks and tips. Check out Apple.com.

A MacBook Guide - Apple MacBook Pro 13.3-Inch Laptop (April 2010)

At the time of writing, this is the latest 13.3-inch Apple laptop model of 2010. Most of its improvements are evident in the specs and features of this MacBook Pro model. The new model has a 2.4Ghz dual core processor, a new NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics card, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and 250GB for storage. It retains its wide selection of connectivity options that include Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11n wi-fi connectivity, 2 USB ports and a FireWire 800 port among many others.

Design wise, not much changes have been made to this model except for the slightly thinner power adapter chord. It retains its sturdy and sleek aluminum body, spacious track-pad and the oh-so-comfortable keyboard. There were some additions though to the multi-touch feature. The track pad now supports 'inertial scrolling' that allows flick-scrolling, just like on the iPhone and iPad. The 1280 x 800 resolution screen was a delight to use, with vibrant colors and good viewing angles.

Improvements were also made to its battery life in the new 13-inch Apple MacBook Pro. The battery on the new model can last up to 10 hours at one go, which is extremely good by any full-featured laptop standards. Overall, although the improvements made on the new model wasn't earth shattering, we were still very pleased with them. Thanks to the ample 4GB of DDR3 RAM (and the faster processor), multitasking with several heavy applications was just a breezy experience.

With a set of more powerful specs, a better graphics card, a longer battery life and the same old price, the new 13-inch MacBook pro does give you great value for your money. Currently, you can get yourself one of these for just around $1184 per unit.
