The iPad, Truly the Next Generation of Technology
For years the world speculated whether or not Apple Inc. was going to release a tablet computer. Rumors ran rampant if even Apple was developing a product like that or not. Then in April 2010, Apple shocked the world with the release of the revolutionary device. The Apple iPad introduces a brand new way of doing things on a tablet computer, instead of a traditional stylus, the iPad is completely controlled by a users finger. Comes with a beautiful large screen, and can even double as a e-book reader. The question is whether this product is worth the wait, or just another hyped up piece of technology people say we should buy? Let me tell you my friends, this is the real deal!
After being available for pre-order in early March 2010, the world was eagerly waiting to get their hands on the brand new device. During its opening weekend release, the Apple iPad sold over 700,000 units! Very impressive figures considering most people did not exactly know all the device could do. What makes the iPad revolutionary is the multi-touch interface it has built in. Everyone knows good and well how to use their hands and thats all the prior knowledge you will need in order to manipulate the device. Apple took the software platform they perfected touchscreen interface with from the iPhone, and up scaled it to the iPad. The tablet looks amazing with a very sleek and simple design. The screen takes up just about all of the front besides the Home button, and the back seems to be crafted well out of aluminum. The device weighs in at about 1.5lbs and does not feel cheap at all, a staple in Apple production, it feels durable, but at the same time light enough to carry at any angle. The screen though is the main focal point of the iPad coming in a beautiful 9.7 inch LED back lit IPS. The colors are vibrant and very pleasing to the eyes. Apple has toted this device as an E-book killer. Meaning once you read a book on the iPad, you will not want to do it any where else. And by all means its very true, you can adjust the brightness on the fly depending on your personal preference and the text shows up well on the big screen.
If you aren't familiar with "apps", these are the applications that Apple along with many other 3rd party developers create for Apple products. But why buy an ipad when you can get a free iPad? Right out of the box the iPad can run just about all of the 150,000 apps currently available for the iPhone and iPad Touch. Truly something for everyone. Along with many special apps developed just for the iPad, these apps are the REASON you will want to get your paws onto the iPad. From Google Maps to watching streaming movies from Netflix, this device seems to do almost everything your computer can do, all while in a portable shell that's a visual masterpiece. One cool App comes from Marvel Entertainment with their app that allows you to view eye-candy rich graphic novels and comics that almost play like a movie. The iPad might not be a laptop replacement for everyone, but if you are like most internet users out here who mostly surf the web, listen to music, catch up on news, and play games online, this is the device for you. The best entertainment experience you can have that is portable, trust me.
If you are in the market for a iPad, consider getting a free iPad. Free iPads are available now!.
The iPad Is No Flash in the Pan Technology
Here is a newsflash - Apple's iPad is here to stay. This handy little tool has taken the 2010 computer industry by storm...in a down economy no less. Steve Jobs and Apple are currently unmatched when it comes to finding and attacking new consumer markets. While other IT giants are putting most of their efforts into defending their current status and following other companies in sectors that are already near saturation, Apple continually innovates and creates a market where one previously did not exist. Whether it be iTunes, the iPhone, or even Macintosh computers (which refused to bow down to Microsoft Windows as the end-all-be-all in home and professional computing), Apple is a leader - not a follower. The iPad is simply the latest product in this legacy.
There are a myriad of reasons why the iPad is so popular. However, the #1 reason is its ease of use and well targeted functional focus. While not an overly powerful hard drive, the iPad has all of the functions that the casual computer user needs and few that they typically do not. Its features of a clean fast operating system, easy to use touch screen (complete with pop-up QWERTY board), and emphasis on media usage has made it a hit with users of all ages. At $500, it also sells at a lower rate than most modern lap tops, although lower end models from most major retailers do come in below the Apple price. With fall courses starting across the country on college campuses, the iPad is selling like hotcakes to the younger generation.
There are a few drawbacks to the iPad. As far as computing power goes, it is very limited. The touch pad keyboard is not going to be a hit with users that are frequently using word processors or heavy programming. It is also a bit of a tweener when it comes to size. It is too big to fit into your pocket, but not big enough to feature a large widescreen and full keyboard (with number keypad) that is common in the most popular laptop models today. More experienced users will also find issues with the system's networking capabilities. There are also some issues with what happens when the product has problems. There have not been many common issues yet, but eventually every technology has issues (even Apple computers). How well the iPad is able to adjust to those on the fly will prove important. Ultimately, it is about knowing your computing needs and weighing those against the products specifications and capabilities.
But people who need these programs extensively are not the target audience. Apple simply realized that most computers offer more power and more features than the average person will ever need. The days of users frequently needing to add to their hard drives and clear space to make room for new applications is (for most people) behind us. For people who use a computer primarily for media (internet, music, movies) or just need a simple OS for their computing needs (i.e. college students), the iPad is proving to be a terrific option with few drawbacks. Apple has done it again.
