Would you repair an iPhone if you could? What's wrong with being a Salesperson? Most people have a low or no regard for a salesperson of any kind. The generally public fears: being sold what they don't need or don't want. Conversely, the general public is constantly hunting for expert advice on just about everything. All the cooking shows, home remodeling shows, stock-picking shows and websites prove it.
As an iPhone repair person, if you said to someone: "I can fix that cracked screen for you, right now for $50, and I can unlock it for $40" - do you think the reaction would be positive or negative? Imagine if you said this: "I can upgrade you to a new iPhone right now - just sign this 30 page contract, and you're all set for the next two years". Can you read and "feel" the difference between the repair person and the sales person?
Why is the feeling toward the repair person warm, and toward the sales person cold?
1. Well, repairing something almost always means saving money while not losing a device you're familiar with - so "repair" can have warm fuzzy feelings attached.
2. At the same time, we all know the "sick to your stomach" image of signing on to another two years with a lousy company, just because it's a fast and easy way to take care of a broken phone problem.
3. We all know most sales people are trained only to talk you into making a purchase. Conversely, we all also have an almost "natural respect" for anyone who has mastered a difficult skill.
There's a new and huge industry emerging fast from our growing piles of broken devices of all kinds. The iPhone not only led a revolution in the evolution of the cell phone, it is leading us into this new industry as well - "The Durable Electronic Device Repair Industry". If you are thinking of a career change, you could probably not do better than to join this new industry.
The iPhone and iPod brought the touch screen into the mainstream. As hard as others tried, they couldn't seem to get their touch screens to perform like Apple was able to. However, that's changing fast. The day is coming when thousands of expensive devices will have broken touch pad screens. The demand is so high now, we can attract all the business we want, anytime we want. Imagine what the future will bring - a lot more demand!
